The 5 things we'd buy first

Cheap, small and useful on almost every trip.

  1. 1

    Portable charger with built-in cables

Built-in cables are the big win. No extra charging cords floating around the park bag.

  2. 2

    Travel power strip

Hotel rooms never have enough outlets where you need them. The 5 ft braided cord reaches the nightstand so everyone's phone and our sound machines can charge at once.

  3. 3

    Stroller fans

We normally bring at least two. On really hot trips, sometimes more.

  4. 4

    Ponchos

Mostly a water-ride thing for us, but also nice to have if the weather turns.

  5. 5

    Blister bandages

These stay in our bag because Disneyland is not where you want a blister ruining your day.

Hotel Nights and Packing

The stuff that makes hotel nights with kids go smoother, especially when the room is one bed short.

  • Inflatable toddler travel bed

One of our most-used family travel products, and great when a hotel room needs one more kid-sized sleep spot.

  • Small travel playard

The compact kids' bed we've used for hotel stays when we need something smaller than a full-size Pack 'n Play.

  • Budget Pick

    Yogasleep Rohm portable sound machine

Small, simple and cheap enough that we don't worry about it in the bag. It drowns out hallway noise and doors closing so the kids stay asleep.

  • Upgrade Pick

Hatch sound machine and night light

The upgrade we use when we want sound plus a night light the kids already know from home, so a strange hotel room feels a little more like bedtime.

Hot Park Days

What keeps everyone cooler when the California sun shows up.

We normally bring at least two. On really hot trips, sometimes more.

  • No Link Needed

    Cooling towels

Wet it, snap it, drape it on your neck. Ours came from Walmart and any basic one works, so grab whatever's easy.

  • Shade umbrella for wheelchairs and strollers

The Sport-Brella we clip on to add portable shade when the California sun is strong. It works on a wheelchair as well as a stroller.

  • Kids' water bottles we actually use

Stainless steel, easy for the kids, and the handle makes them easy to attach to the stroller.

  • Cooler bag

We don't bring it every trip, but it's great when we want cold waters and drinks with us all day.

  • The double stroller we used for Disney

We don't use a double stroller anymore, but this was our go-to for park trips and we were constantly asked about it.
